In Anora, winner of the Palme d’Or this year at Cannes, our titular character (who prefers Ani) is a stripper who makes a classic mistake: falling for one of her clients, the young son of a Russian oligarch. When they get married on an impromptu trip to Vegas, Ani seems to think they have a real future—but when his parents catch on he (literally) runs away, leaving her and the family’s enforcers in a race against the clock to find him before the oligarchs arrive.
