INTERVIEW by ELI L.A.
Tina Horn prefers the term ‘educatrix’. What better summarizes her smart and sexy work, from comics to activism, and now, a new book. Based on her long-running podcast of the same name, “Why Are People Into That?: A Cultural Investigation of Kink”, comes out June 6th, and has content for hardcore sex fans and kink newbies alike. Tina talked with Petit Mort contributor Eli L.A. about everything from being a Virgo to decriminalizing sex work.
PETIT MORT (ELI L.A.)
I wanted to start with this interesting thesis that runs throughout about the difference between the snake oil sexpert and the sex educator. You position sex work as an obvious building space for becoming a sex educator. I was wondering if you could talk more about that.
TINA HORN
My first sex education gig was training my fellow workers at the dungeon. There was a way that I was trained to spank and be spanked, to pierce and be pierced, to tie up and be tied up, how to clean, how to disinfect dildos, how to consider your hands to be a biohazard from the minute that you put on gloves and hold them above your shoulders in the same way that a surgeon or a tattoo artist would. I learned that from fellow sex workers, and then when there were new people working, I trained them.
